• We are hosting the San Marcos High School Baccalaureate. (strangest spelled word of all time). It will be Sunday night, June 1, 2008, 6pm.
• We have narrowed our playground to 2 companies and 3 different systems. We will keep everyone posted on the time line asap.
• We talking with our neighbors about possibly buying 10 more acres from them. This would give us the ability to expand and fit into one service!
• We have asked our new Worship Leader… to be Matt Brock. How about that little nugget? You are the second to know. We told the worship team on Tuesday night. We are excited about the Brocks joining our family! (they said “yes”)
• The Fireworks warehouse company has called to see if we are interested in working the warehouse for the July 4th season. We will have an answer on that in the next week or so.
• There is a flu/virus going around people in the church. PRAY for everyone involved. Stomach and fevers are being affected.
• We are wiring money to Ani Simonson in Nigeria to complete the purchase of his church property!! What a miracle this was. God blessed us with the ability and someone in the church was faithful to sow it!

I heard a great quote this past weekend by Pastor Craig Groeschel. He said, “If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, then it is time to start watering your grass.” I am not sure if he coined the phrase, but what a great impact it delivers.

We often think that our victory or success comes from others efforts. We don’t want to take the time to invest in our own work. An easy answer to conflict is to go somewhere else. Run. However, we often don’t like that answer in the long run. The reason: we keep getting conflict in life no matter where we go. That is simply the way life is. The grass may be greener right now on the other side. So what? Work on the yard of your life.

This is a call to all… invest in what God has given you. Stay planted. If you experience conflict, reach out in love and resolve it with others. You become stronger, the enemy is defeated, and you start seeing little green sprigs rising from the dried, brown expanse.

This is one of the best cartoons I have seen in a long time…

Over the last five years, I have been amazed at the ethnic diversity of our congregation.  We never talk about it or make a big deal about it.  We started diverse and we have kept the same beautiful variety.  I think it set the tone when our Bishop appointed a Hispanic, a Black, and a white (2) to our deacon board.  He subtly pronounced our intentions of equality.  What is so cool is that he didn’t even try to do it.  It was simply natural.

I often get asked by other pastors how we accomplish our diversity.  I don’t have a definitive answer for them.  Other than we try hard to love, accept, and use all people.  I have been raised in PromiseLand all my life so I don’t really know any other concept.  Our church in Austin has the same ethnic diversity.

What is interesting to me is that quietly we are erasing the cultural divide locally.  While others in the national spotlight give speeches about how we need to do everything, the ‘common folk’ of San Marcos are actually showing the world how to do it.  You (of PSM) are a great example.  We don’t expect everyone to be like each other (melting pot), but we honor each other, respect one another, love each other. 

I want to ask those of you in the church… How has being a part of this church changed your outlook of other races in a positive way?  Have you always gone to multicultural churches?

Those of you that don’t attend our local church…I don’t think we are perfect.  We have room for improvement.  BUT, there is some incredible fruit blossoming from this place.

I just got a text confirmation that Randy Phillips will be with us on Saturday, June7th.

So our tentative schedule for that weekend will go like this:

Saturday, June 7th (6pm): Randy Phillips, John Ragsdale, and Jacob Lowery (an Awakening Reunion)

Sunday, June 8th (9am and 11am): Bishop Kenneth Phillips

This will be a great time for us all. It will be the Lowerys will be moving the following week. So, that will be their official last weekend.

This will be a “don’t miss” weekend

Okay, I am going to say something about this…

I have not heard Jeremiah Wright’s entire sermons, but I am thinking of watching a couple of them. From catching a few clips online and on satellite radio, I have heard some ‘powerful’ and provocative speech.

I hear his supporters saying that he is speaking prophetically. When you study the prophets of the Old Testament, they were not status quo, government supporting preachers. Interesting thoughts to think what an Old Testament prophet would say about America today.

My bigger topic today or bigger picture is not necessarily Jeremiah Wright, but how do I decide my point of view. Rev. Wright happens to be a good case study.

Education (going to college and getting a degree) has forced me to analyze every situation through different eyes. I give things a thorough screening before casting judgment. Then, when seeing with spiritual eyes, I can discern the intent and purpose. I often find a battle between my knee-jerk reaction and the ones that I come with after examination and prayer.

I know that whether I am watching CNN, ABC, or FOXnews that any media source has bias. One way or the other. So, taking their spin is not the best option.

My intent today is not to pick a side. It is to stimulate your mind a little. I am going out on a limb and say I did.

FORT WORTH — An aspiring record label owner is singing the blues after he was arrested last week for allegedly trying to pass a $360 billion check at a Fort Worth bank.

Employees at the Chase Bank at 8601 S. Hulen St. grew suspicious after seeing all those zeroes (10 to be exact) and called the check’s owner. The woman said the suspect, Charles Ray Fuller, 21, of Crowley, is her daughter’s boyfriend and that he did not have permission to take the check or cash it.

While inside a patrol car, police say Fuller blurted out that he is starting his own record label and had been given the money by his girlfriend’s mother to help him start it.

Apparently breaking into the music business does not come cheap.

If you want to be popular, draw a crowd, or have a lot of people like you, is it all about pleasing them and not you?

I know the first thing going through most people’s minds right now is…”be yourself”  “be authentic” that will draw people in.  Will it?

‘Pleasing others’ sounds fake, but what about ’serving others’?  Denying yourself.

Popular sounds like a flimsy word to most adults.  We think of high school and not being popular, not liking that, therefore trashing the word.

Maybe successful or appealing is a better word.

Think about packed out restaurants, best selling movies, sports teams with packed arenas, full churches, popular political candidates…

Who is it about?
